Coming to Arizona Illustrated: Highlights of the week of July 6, 2009
Monday: The Arizona Legislature goes into special session today to try once again to work out differences between the Governor and the GOP-led legislature in order to reach a budget agreement for fiscal year 2010. Host Bill Buckmaster will have a conversation with Republican commentator John Munger and Democratic commentator Vince Rabago about the ups and downs of Arizona's Legislature and the need for a special session. In our continuing Tasty Tucson series, Luis Carrion takes us to Time Market, a long established community gathering place.
Tuesday: Tony Paniagua takes us to the U.S. Mexico border to visit a recycling project south of the border which helps the U.S. environment and unemployed women in Sonora. Bill Buckmaster speaks with Pima County Supervisor Ray Carroll about the County budget process and Kimberly Craft takes a trip down memory lane when the Mickey Mouse Club was featured at The Fox Theatre.
Wednesday: Christopher Conover reports that while the Veterans Administration led the way in the area of online medical records, medical facilities in Tucson are now also getting on board. Retired General John Wickham, Former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and Commander of U.S. and U.N Forces in Korea, talks to Bill Buckmaster about the growing tensions between the United States and North Korea. We'll have a commentary from Barbara Warren, a nuclear disarmament activist.
Thursday: The City of Tucson is facing several issues including downtown development, budget cuts to essential services and possible changes in the city charter. Joining Host Bill Buckmaster to talk about those issues and other topics is Richard Fimbres, one of seven Tucson City Council candidates vying for three council seats. Luis Carrión tells us it's once again saguaro fruit harvesting time.
Friday: Our Roundtable guests this week will feature two Southern Arizona lawmakers: Republican Jonathan Paton and Democrat Steve Farley.
