Episode 1 of 1

VILLA DE ALBURQUERQUE delves into the colorful 300-year history of the southwestern city, including New Mexico's beginnings as a province of colonial Spain and the Pueblo Revolt. VILLA reveals how Albuquerque's early settlers, soldiers, servants and indigenous peoples lived, farmed and traded. Period reenactments depict the harsh realities of ranch life, the oppressive religious atmosphere and the violent clashes between indigenous Americans and the Spanish colonists. Despite hostilities between these two communities, interrracial marriage was both accepted and encouraged. Today, many of Albuquerque's citizens reflect a blend of both American Indian and Spanish cultures. During the program, a DNA investigator reconstructs New Mexico's multicultural heritage by tracing the genetic ancestry of some of its residents.
