Season 1, Episode 1 of 8 :  A New World

A diverse group of modern Americans, and even a few Brits, travel back in time to visit New England as it was in 1628. With a variety of livestock in tow, the three families and seven individuals arrive at their very own New World by tall ship. A pre- selected governor heads the group of volunteers who have agreed to participate in this hands-on history experiment: to build an authentic working colony in a strange new land, using only the primitive tools of the period, while taking on the various social roles of colonial times. Like the real colonists in 17th-century America, they are backed by a sponsoring company in England. Nevertheless, these modern-day colonists are facing five months of isolation, deprivation and backbreaking labor. As the men, women and children adjust to life in New England, sickness suddenly takes hold. As the novelty of the experiment fades, Governor Wyers faces the first of many challenges.
