Governor Wyers returns, without his family, to take charge of his colony. The corn is finally in the ground, but the colonists are finding it difficult to shake their modern sensibilities and adhere to the restrictive laws of the 17th century. The governor's decision to rule with an iron fist takes everyone by surprise. Before long, the "non-believers" are tied to stakes in the cornfield as punishment, and nearly all have a shameful scarlet letter pinned to their clothing for profanity and other offenses. As the colonists' mood spirals downward, the governor himself is at a breaking point. Meanwhile, 11 new settlers are making their way toward the colony.
