Colonial HouseSeason 1, Episode 4 of 8 : The Outsiders
Everyone is struggling to find his or her place. The new colonists arrived with inadequate supplies, so food rations are cut in half. Single-room dwellings, once home to five people, are now home to as many as 12. Pressure mounts as the men work hard to make ships' spars - wooden poles used to support rigging - to send back to England to prove to the sponsoring company that the colony is worth continued investment. The lay preacher's indentured servant, Jonathon Allen, reveals a well-kept secret. The governor declares that a new house must be built to alleviate the cramped living situation. Faced with a forest of trees and only basic 17th-century hand tools, the colonists are forced to pull together, despite their differences.
