Governor's Budget Chiefs Pushing Education Funding Plan

The combination of higher revenues and lower use of services will provide money for schools, they say.

Officials with Gov. Doug Ducey's office continue to promote his new education funding formula.

Gretchen Conger, the Governor's deputy chief of staff for budget and policy, said state revenue has grown by 4 percent, and the unemployment rate has decreased in 2018. She says that means more money could be set aside in the budget for state education.

"Few people relying on government services, more dollars we can spend on teachers," she said.

Conger said the focus now is on Arizona lawmakers to finalize and pass the budget.

"Nothing is final until the budget passes the Legislature," Conger told Arizona 360. "We're hoping the priority of this budget will be teacher pay."
