A bright little bird will be getting extra attention in 2017 as the Tucson Audubon Society’s designated bird of the year. The society says the hummingbird, our region’s “smallest avian ambassador,” can play a big role in their efforts to increase understanding and appreciation for birds and nature in general. The program includes a citizen science project to gather data about the birds, birdwatching events, and efforts which encourage people to make their yards more “wildlife friendly” in Tucson.
