Most people do not think of snow when they think of Tucson or the Sonoran Desert. The Catalina Highway on the city’s north side takes your from the iconic saguaro stands of the desert to Summerhaven at the top of Mount Lemmon. With elevations above 9000 feet, the mountain gets an average 180 inches of snow a year. When the conditions are right Ski Valley, the southernmost skiing destination in the United States opens and people from all over Southern Arizona make the trip for a rare chance to enjoy the snow.
