A little native fish, the Gila topminnow, was recently rediscovered in the Santa Cruz river south of Tucson. It probably made it there during a surge from a storm that brought it up from Mexico, and while this may not sound particularly exciting, the fish can only continue to survive due to human intervention in the river. This includes a water treatment plant, the work of scientists, international relations, and cooperative efforts between community members.
