Harbingers of Summer

Cicadas are harbingers of the coming monsoon. We hear them start their mating calls during the hottest, driest days of June. Their songs, and their mating, continue even as the rains start to fall. What are cicadas’ purpose in life and how do they make that loud buzzing sound?
