Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

A naive Senate replacement faces ridicule and corruption when he takes his idealistic views to the nation's capital. Sturday at 9 p.m. on PBS 6.

When the idealistic young man, Jefferson Smith (James Stewart) winds up appointed to the United States Senate, he gains the mentorship of an older senator, Senator Joseph Paine (Claude Rains). However, Paine isn't as noble as his reputation would indicate, and he becomes involved in a scheme to discredit Smith. Determined to stand up against Paine and his corrupt peers, Smith takes his case to the Senate floor.
