AZ WEEK: Interstate Could Be International Trade Route

Planned I-11 would connect Spouthern Arizona to Las Vegas, eventually Canada, to bolster trade.

The U.S. Senate recently approved a highway funding bill that includes plans for Interstate 11, a corridor connecting Phoenix and Las Vegas. Arizona Week Friday looks at the implications for trade between Mexico and Canada.

On the program:

  • The I-11 is expected to have a significant economic impact on the Nogales region and cross-border trade. Allison Moore of the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas, Bruce Bracker from the Greater Nogales Santa Cruz County Port Authority and Luis Ramirez, an advisor to ADOT sit down to discuss.

  • It has been more than two decades since such a significant interstate project was undertaken. Ian Dowdy, director of the Sun Corridor Program at the Sonoran Institute, explains how the environmental nonprofit, is working with stakeholders as the project develops.
