Arizona Week: Republican VP Pick Pence Stops in Tucson

Tucson event quieter than ‘raucous’ Trump rally in March.

Republican candidate for vice president and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence visited Arizona this week, stopping in Tucson at the Fox Theatre Tuesday.

Nearly 1,000 people packed the theater, where Pence pushed the campaign’s message and took questions from the audience.

Bruce Ash, Republican national committeeman for Arizona, served as the emcee and characterized the event as "more of a town hall."

Arizona Week’s Lorraine Rivera spoke with reporter Paul Ingram of TucsonSentinel.com to analyze the campaign visit, noting that event was more subdued than presidential candidate Donald Trump’s controversial rally in Tucson on March 19.

Pence then traveled to Phoenix for a rally.

Arizona Week also took a closer look at the fight to raise the minimum wage in Arizona, which will be up to voters come November. On the program:

  • Tomás Robles, of Arizonans for Fair Wages & Healthy Families.
  • Garrick Taylor, of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  • Duwayn Hall, D's Island Grill restaurant.
  • Rocco Digrazia, Rocco's Little Chicago restaurant.
