Tutankhamun

Watch the compelling personal story of Howard Carter, the eminent British archaeologist who found the tomb of boy-king Tutankhamun.

Set against the ochre sands, looming cliffs and baking heat of the Valley of the Kings, this ambitious, sweeping saga is based on the compelling personal story of Howard Carter, the eminent British archaeologist who found the tomb of boy-king Tutankhamun. We meet the young Carter in 1905, fervently leading an expedition. But when tempers fray and he puts the excavation in jeopardy, Carter’s license to dig is revoked by Cairo’s Antiquities Service. Ostracised and living rough, he cuts a solitary figure existing on the edges of society, until a chance meeting with dashing British aristocrat Lord Carnarvon, an enthusiastic amateur archaeologist, and his daughter Lady Evelyn, brings Carter a dramatic change of fortune, and an unexpected chance at love.

Tutankhamun, Thursday at 8 p.m. on PBS 6.
