PBS News Weekend

Season 3, Episode 11 of 86

On Saturday, NewsHour Weekend travels to San Francisco, as a vote on whether to tax sugary drinks in the city draws near. Similar to others proposed in cities across the country, the tax would raise the price of sodas, teas, energy drinks and any others that contain added sugar. Proponents of the tax cite sugary drinks as one of the prime culprits in the diabetes and obesity epidemic sweeping the nation. But critics suggest the tax would hurt small businesses, not to mention make consumers pay more at the register. NewsHour Weekend Correspondent William Brangham reports. That, and the weekend's news, online and on-air.
