In his last attempt, he jumps up and grabs on to an apple with his mouth. The apple is stubborn, and will not come off. Russell struggles to help it come free, but instead he breaks the branch. Mona and Nana come out and help Russell get out from underneath the branch. Mr. Wooka comes to see what the noise was. They tell him how Russell was getting an apple and accidentally broke the branch. Mr. Wooka picks up the giant branch, and says he will use it for wood. Mona is curious, so he takes her and Russell into his yard while Nana gets a surprise ready. Mr. Wooka shows them all of the things he has made from wood: the birdhouse, his house, the table and his puppets. He has made two puppets from pinecones and they play with them, and make them dance. Suddenly, an apple falls from the tree, so Mona and Russell go over to investigate. They bring the apple to Mr. Wooka. It has a worm living inside. Mr. Wooka tells Mona that bugs use apples from trees to make their homes. Mr. Wooka gives Mona and Russell a basket and they pick apples for Nana. Mona is careful not to pick the ones with bugs. They give the freshly picked apples to Nana. As she washes the apples, Mona tells her what she and Russell did at Mr. Wooka's house. After the apples are washed, Nana gives Mona and Russell some to eat. They are yummy, and Nana is reminded of a book that Mona's Mom made when she was a little girl.
