PBS News Weekend

Season 3, Episode 72 of 86

On Sunday, NewsHour Weekend explores the re-interpretation of the Muslim faith in South Africa, where recently, a Muslim academic opened a gay- and women-friendly mosque. The move was regarded as a response to the culture of exclusion and conservatism in the Muslim faith. And despite receiving death threats and fierce criticism, experts say the house of worship's policies represent an adaptation of centuries-old traditions. NewsHour Special Correspondent Martin Seemungal reports from Cape Town, South Africa.
