Drexel Interview

Gary Shteyngart, Part 2

Season 3, Episode 8 of 12

This is the second part of a two-part interview focusing on the life and work of writer Gary Shteyngart. Shteyngart is the author of three acclaimed novels, The Russian Debutante's Handbook, Absurdistan, and Super Sad True Love Story, as well as a recent memoir, Little Failure. This second episode delves into the pages of Shteyngart's earlier novels, leading up to the publication of Little Failure. The author describes with both satire and affection his experiences as a Russian immigrant and child of conservative Jewish parents in New York City. Shteyngart also addresses important social themes like multiculturalism, gentrification, education, and the lingering influence of Communism and anti-Semitism on his own family's story. Recorded at the Leonard Pearlstein Gallery at Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, this episode features poignant conversation-paired with an author reading-in a striking gallery space. Join Paula Marantz Cohen, Drexel University Distinguished Professor of English and Program Host, as she talks with Gary Shteyngart in this episode of The Drexel InterView.
