PBS News Weekend

Season 4, Episode 6 of 99

On Sunday, NewsHour Weekend explores the issue of female genital mutilation in the United States. A recent report estimates that about 500,000 women and girls in the U.S. are at risk of or have been subjected to the practice. That's because when school lets out, countries that still have FGM increase the number of procedures they perform, according to a recent report. And in places where the practice is strictly prohibited, including the U.S., families often send their daughters back to their native countries to undergo the procedure. NewsHour's Megan Thompson reports.
