Season 7, Episode 1 of 4

This acclaimed public affairs series, moderated by distinguished journalist and scholar Marvin Kalb, features one-on-one interview and panel discussions on topics ranging from ethics in journalism to covering the private lives of public officials. THE KALB REPORT focuses on democracy and the press in four episodes taped before an audience of students and professionals at The National Press Club in Washington, D.C. The series, the centerpiece of the National Press Club's Centennial Celebration, explores four critical areas of journalism: war coverage, investigative reporting, White House coverage and the role of the television anchor. In the first episode, Katie Couric, anchor and managing editor of The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric, discusses the necessity of a free press in a democracy, her role as an anchor, new media platforms and melding traditional journalism with emerging technologies.
