Syrian refugees in Turkey - Syrian refugees in southeastern Turkey have a hard life; medical care is not readily available and they are not allowed to work. Argentina: Pesticides versus people - Soy has become Argentina's single most important export. Sixty percent of land under cultivation is now devoted to growing soy. The country is famous for its beef, but cattle breeding is on the decline. Soy is a huge business that makes some rich. But people living near soy farms and scientists say the evidence is strong that the huge amounts of pesticides used there are harmful to humans and that prevailing farming practices are ruining the soil. The soy used is genetically modified. Critics say that too is extremely risky. Biodiversity in the Seychelles - The Seychelles depend on tourism and fishing. Those industries can only flourish if nature and natural resources are well protected and sustained. The Seychelles is an island paradise in the Indian Ocean where a high proportion of the flora and fauna are unique to the archipelago. Maintaining the natural world costs money, and the Biodiversity Financing Initiative of the UN Development Program is involved in finding ways to ensure that the necessary funds are available. Global Snack: Germany - Cologne is home to what is said to be Germany's first entirely vegan burger joint. What's more, the two owners source the produce locally and make sure it is all organic. Even committed meat eaters are known to have enjoyed a veggie-based burger there.
