Vel Phillips: Dream Big Dreams

Episode 1 of 1

This documentary tells the story of Vel Phillips, this now-91 year-old woman, who flourished as an African-American, and as a female by refusing the status quo. Inspired by a strong sense of race consciousness from her parents and emboldened by her supportive and intelligent husband, Phillips kept her cool as she sparked a dangerous confrontation between the powerful and those deemed powerless. This film shows her butting heads in the backrooms of Milwaukee's City Hall, marching through the streets as an activist, and speaking across the nation as an outstanding orator.
