Rural cemeteries were the forerunners to arboretums which in turn were forerunners to our park systems. Landscape architects like Olmstead got a lot of their original ideas from rural cemeteries with their meandering roadways, individual specimen trees and shrubs planted throughout. A lot of gardening lessons in an unconventional spot. Tune in.
