Metro Week

Season 4, Episode 14 of 25

On the next episode of Metro Week: State budget: AZPM’s Christopher Conover gives us an update on the state budget process, how long until we know who’s getting money, and who’s getting cut? Full day kindergarten: One of the elements of Gov. Doug Ducey’s budget proposal was an increase in funding to expand all-day kindergarten. We interview Sunnyside Unified School District’s chief financial officer, Hector Encinas, about that promise, why many districts, including Sunnyside, wouldn’t qualify for the funding. Higher education: AZPM’s Vanessa Barchfield interviews the Arizona Board of Regents President Eileen Klein about higher education funding, the vote this week to hire a new U of A president, and more. Sanctuary cities: Tucson City Councilwoman Regina Romero talks about a conference she attended last week with other municipalities trying to figure out what the threat of losing federal funding for being a sanctuary city means, whether it applies to Tucson, and a plan just in case.
