Fake or Fortune?

Rodin

Season 5, Episode 3 of 4

This episode is about a sketch of a Cambodian dancer attributed to Rodin, best known for his sculptures, but also an accomplished artist. In 1906, when the King of Cambodia visited France accompanied by a troupe of traditional dancers, Rodin witnessed one of their performances. He was enthralled, quickly seeking to capture their sense of movement in more than 100 pencil and watercolor sketches. Today, they can fetch around £100,000 at auction - but the market has been infiltrated by countless fakes, many of which are linked to a forger with an extraordinary story.
