Season 8, Episode 31 of 99

After home mortgages, student loans are America's largest form of debt, with more than $1.4 trillion owed by millions of people across the country. That heavy burden falls not only on young graduates but on older borrowers, too. In fact, there are now nearly 3 million Americans over 60 years old who still owe an average of nearly $24, 000 in student loans -- some for their own education, but most for their children or grandchildren. NewsHour Weekend's Megan Thompson reports on why so many in the "baby boomer generation" are paying off student loans into their 60s, 70s, and beyond. This story is part of our ongoing series "Chasing the Dream" about poverty and opportunity in America.
