NOGALES PORTS OF ENTRY: Lorraine Rivera travels to Nogales to see how ports of entry are impacted by the steady rise of asylum seekers. She speaks to the newly appointed Director of Field Operations Guadalupe Ramirez of ports in Arizona and the Nogales Port Director Mike Humphries. BORDER POLICIES & MASS MIGRATION: The number of family units apprehended at the Southwest border is up 400% over Customs and Border Protection's last fiscal year. Elizabeth Oglesby researches human rights and Central America at the UA Center for Latin American Studies. She explained how border security policies have contributed to the migration influx. CARTELS & HUMAN SMUGGLING: Drug cartels control the routes used by migrants to reach the U.S. Tony Coulson, a retired head of the DEA in Tucson, discusses when cartels began to use human smuggling to their benefit. OPERATION STONEGARDEN VOTE: Pima County Supervisor Sharon Bronson discusses her vote in favor of Operation Stonegarden funding returning to the sheriff's department and county. Bronson was the swing vote in the board's 3-2 decision to accept the grant. The federal grant money goes to local authorities for work done in cooperation with Border Patrol.
