In this opening session, Jerry discusses the reference material he uses then reviews the composition and explains how to make a rough sketch with soft-vine charcoal. He shows how to use modeling paste to create texture. Now he finishes by underpainting the first layers of distant and middle-ground rock formations, and underpaints the waterfall.
