Songs at the Center

Season 3, Episode 2 of 13

Artists: Liz Longley, Robby Hecht, Sally Fingerett, and hosted by songwriter Eric Gnezda. Artist Bio: Liz Longley, signed with Sugar Hill Records, is a native of Philadelphia and a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston. The award-winning songwriter has taken home top prizes at some of the most prestigious competitions in the country, including the BMI John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship Competition, the International Acoustic Music Awards and the Rocky Mountain Folk Fest Songwriting Competition. She invites comparisons to Shawn Colvin, Paula Cole and Nanci Griffith. She performs "Memphis" and "Unraveling." Artist Bio: Robbie Hecht, of Nashville, has distinguished himself as the second coming of James Taylor, a gentler Damien Jurado. But whatever the comparisons, it's hard to miss that his songwriting is distinct and individual. Across his four indie releases, he doesn't shy from the obvious rhyme, but manages it with a delicate audacity, placing it only where it best serves the story or the mood. Robby has won many prestigious national performing songwriter awards, including the Kerrville New Folk, Telluride Troubadour and the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriting Competitions. He sings "A Night Together." Artist Bio: Sally Fingerett is a founding member of the musical comedy group, The Four Bitchin' Babes. Also a solo artist, she has released five CDs, which include duets with Janis Ian, Jonathan Edwards, and a song co-written with Tom Paxton. As a Kerrville New Folk Award Winner for songwriting, Sally's composition, "Home Is Where the Heart Is," was recorded by Peter, Paul, and Mary. She has appeared in Putamayo's Songwriter Festival at New York's Carnegie Hall, and was a featured musical guest on Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know, NPR's Mountain Stage, and CBS Sunday Morning. She is also author of The Mental Yentl, Stories from a Lifelong Student of Crazy. She performs "Home Is Where The Heart Is."
