When a body is found in the backyard of a home in an Afro-Caribbean neighborhood of London, DCI Tennison has to tread carefully in her investigation because of racial tensions surrounding unsolved crimes in the region. Jane also worries about her recent affair with DS Bob Oswald when he is assigned to the case. A suspect confesses, but Jane and Bob have doubts.
