Desert Gardens

Season 4, Episode 11 of 13

High temperatures, poor soil and aridity make gardening in the Sonoran Desert a difficult, but not impossible task. Learn about kitchen (backyard) gardens, which produce a surprising amount of food in the region with lower water use compared to commercial agricultural farms. This program offers suggestions for kinds of plants which will attract birds, and offers a look at a traditional O' odham garden. Also take a look at barrio gardens from different cultures, including a traditional Mexican medicinal garden, and Chinese and Italian vegetable gardens.
