The Story Of Elizabeth Taylor

Season 1, Episode 3 of 6

Two-time Oscar winner Elizabeth Taylor was the unofficial Queen of Hollywood, a star from the age of 12 until the day she died. But behind the glitz she led a life of extremes, with a rollercoaster of stellar successes and shocking tragedies. With first-hand accounts from friends, colleagues and family members, as well as rarely-seen interviews with Taylor herself, we reveal the unwavering self-belief that enabled her to survive both good and bad fortune that cemented her legacy. Liz Taylor was married eight times to seven men (twice to actor Richard Burton), and her turbulent love life dominated headlines for much of the 1950s and 1960s. The love of her life, producer Mike Todd, died in a plane crash 13 months into their marriage, leaving her bereft. One of the most beautiful and desired women of the era, Taylor battled alcoholism, overeating and prescription drug use, becoming one of the first celebrities to publicly check into rehab. Her later humanitarian work would win her awards and international acclaim, and recognized in 2000 as a Dame Commander of the British Empire for services to acting and charity.
