This GREAT MUSEUMS special examines the prolific tenure of Philippe de Montebello, New York Metropolitan Museum of Art's longest serving director, who guided the acquisition of more than 84,000 works of art for the museum. Working with hundreds of curators, researchers, scientists and conservators, de Montebello expanded the collection to represent all continents, cultures, and eras while presenting a panoramic view of the world's art history over time.
