Gospel Meets Symphony: Let Freedom Ring!

Episode 1 of 1

GOSPEL MEETS SYMPHONY: LET FREEDOM RING! is a moving and joyful musical celebration of America's heritage and diversity. The Akron Symphony Orchestra and a 200-voice choir blend two time-honored musical genres - soul-stirring gospel and classical melodies - for a unique and uplifting concert experience. Maestro Christopher Wilkins leads the combined orchestra and choir from more than 50 local churches in performances from Verdi's "Nabucco," in addition to "When I Rose This Morning" and "Ride on King Jesus." Guest conductor Dr. Roland Carter - internationally known composer, arranger and teacher - steps to the podium throughout the concert to direct well-known arrangements of "In Bright Mansions" and "Lift Every Voice and Sing." GOSPEL MEETS SYMPHONY also features Charles J. Myricks, a local composer and minister, who conducts several of his own works, including the stirring "I Made it Home" and "I Know the Lord."
