For nearly 50 years, Anderson University's annual "Candles & Carols" event has ushered in the Christmas season at the Indiana liberal arts institution. The 2012 edition of ANDERSON UNIVERSITY'S CANDLES & CAROLS spotlights the talents of the more than 250 students from the college's Chamber Orchestra and Chorale, the Men's Choir, the Women's Chorus, the Wind Ensemble and the Dance Ensemble. On a stage festively dressed in poinsettias, stained glass and wreaths, the musicians perform orchestral pieces by Tchaikovsky and Corelli, popular holiday arrangements, and familiar carols, occasionally accompanied by costumed dancers. Highlights include: "Dance of the Prince & Sugar-Plum Fairy" from the Nutcracker, the African-American spiritual "Go Tell It on the Mountain," the traditional French carol "Patapan," the a capella "Mary Sat-A-Rockin," and the finale, "Silent Night," featuring the combined choirs and chamber orchestra.
