Guest: Roberta Diddel PhD., Founder and Executive Director of Disability 101. Roberta Diddel PhD. is the founder and Executive Director of Disability 101 and serves as a Lecturer in Psychology at Rice University. When she was just 20 years old, Dr. Diddel was involved in a car crash that paralyzed her and confined her to a wheelchair. Her story leaves a lasting impression as she explains how she felt after she woke up in the hospital, realizing she would never walk again. Her accident led to a new found passion. Today, she focuses on helping patients and their families understand and change their patterns of thinking and acting in order to make good choices and positively influence the quality of their lives. Dr. Diddel specializes in helping individuals to meet the challenges of personal loss, life change, brain injury, dementia, chronic pain and chronic illness. She also lectures and provides training for mental health professionals nation-wide to increase their knowledge and effectiveness in working with people affected by chronic disease and disability. On Living Smart, Roberta Diddel will share how to manage coping, living and thriving with a disability.
