Anne Gartner was a Navy nurse who wanted more out of her career than just working in a hospital stateside. In 1969, after several requests, her wish was finally granted and she soon found herself in the port city of Da Nang, Vietnam. There, she was fortunate enough to hitch a ride to her new duty station just off the coast, the hospital ship USS Sanctuary.
