The town of Douglas is small, but it has a big history. A group in the community wants to make its future even bigger.
For decades the port of entry has been a funnel for travelers and trade. The southeastern Arizona border town was once one of the most economically viable areas in the region, though times have changed.
New business and govewrnmental leaders want to usher in economic rebound, aiming to build a sense of hope in the town with fresh ideas in a region characterized by deep history and imminent change, including the need to accommodate the country’s expanding border apparatus.
Arizona Week looks into Douglas’ past in order to understand its future and the efforts of people there to build economic momentum.
