Twelve years ago, Eddie Grijalva took on the task of celebrating resilience and sobriety in the Native American communities of southern Arizona. Grijalva, a mental health advocate with Pascua Yaqui and Tohono O’odham roots, worked with a handful of friends to pull together a community event at the last minute with a shoestring budget—and found that it filled a deep need in the people who attended. The Red Road to Wellbriety Celebration has since become an annual gathering in the San Xavier District of the Tohono O'odham Nation.
