Najima Rainey has a powerful and beautiful voice but never really considered herself a musician. She thought she was just good at karaoke and could lend her voice to other people’s projects. After her last band broke up she decided to try writing her own songs with the help of a looper. Now, she just recorded her first album and has teamed up with musician, Tadj Roi Arvizu Hodges, to form the band Just Najima. The duo plays what Rainey calls southwestern gothic soul, where she is trying to make the soul music of today.
