Listen:
Sierra Vista is trying to lower its water use in an effort to save the San Pedro River flow.
The San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area was established in 1988 to protect the wild river, and since then, several entities in Cochise County have taken major steps to help ensure it doesn't dry up.
Conservation efforts by local governments and nonprofit groups, as well as Fort Huachuca, the City of Sierra Vista, and The Cochise Water Project are also collaborating to help the area minimize its use of aquifers that feed into the San Pedro.
A major concern is, If the river dries up, Sierra Vista could lose its biggest employer and economic force, Fort Huachuca.
