The University of Arizona's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences is the “The People College.” We study people and their connections with each other, their pasts, and the world around them to better understand the complexity that shapes their daily lives.
Last year the University of Arizona's College of Social and Behavioral Sciences launched its first annual Downtown Lecture Series focusing on "happiness." Due to the immense interest demonstrated by the public, the series has returned this fall spotlighting "food" and how it shapes our lives, our community, and our environment. The lectures take place at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday evening beginning October 15th at the Fox Tucson Theatre. By holding event downtown as opposed to the UA campus, we are supporting and promoting Tucson’s urban core as a vibrant and intellectually engaging place to live, work, play and learn.
Arizona Public Media will also livestream all five lectures for free here on azpm.org.
The series consists of five lectures by UA faculty members:
CHANGING GEOGRAPHIES OF FOOD October 15, 2014 Diana Liverman, Regent’s Professor and Co-Director of the UA’s Institute of the Environment
TUCSON: CITY OF GASTRONOMY, HUB FOR FOOD DIVERSITY October 22, 2014 Gary Nabhan, UA’s W.K. Kellogg Endowed Chair in Sustainable Food Systems
WE EAT WHAT WE ARE October 29, 2014 Maribel Alvarez, UA Professor of Anthropology and Program Director of Tucson Meet Yourself
EDIBLE ROMAN EMPIRE November 5, 2014 Emma Blake, UA Professor of Anthropology
FOOD FOR PLEASURE, VITALITY, AND HEALTH November 12, 2014 Victoria Maizes, Co-Director of the UA’s Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine
