Flying F-100 fighter jets in the cloudy German countryside helped prepare Air Force pilot Don Sheppard for the tropical gloom he would encounter in Vietnam. His transfer to the war zone included a pre-trip visit with his family in Colorado, where he found his wife was much less prepared for departure.
