The state Capitol this year has seen a flurry of legislation about transgender Arizonans, particularly children.
For example, there is legislation to stop transgender students from participating in school sports.
There is a bill to ban state agencies from offering anything more than two choices for gender on government forms.
Another bill would prohibit health care professionals from providing certain care to transgender youth under age 18.
For more on how these bills would impact Southern Arizonans, AZPM's Andrew Oxford spoke with Lizette Trujillo. Her son is transgender and she works with the Human Rights Campaign as well as the Southern Arizona Gender Alliance to advocate for trans youth and their families.
Between the gossip, scandals and posturing at the state Legislature are decisions that will impact the lives of every Arizonan. Each week, Gavel to Gavel: The Arizona Legislature tunes out the noise and puts into context the issues that matter. Subscribe to our podcast on iTunes and Spotify.
