Arizona's unemployment rate decreased to 3.6% in April, pulling within a tenth of a percentage point of the all-time low, recorded in the summer of 2007, according to a report form the Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity.
The drop comes as the national rate went up to 3.9%.
This marks the third year in a row that Arizona has been within a tenth of a percentage point of record low unemployment.
The state's layoffs rate also decreased, while the number of job openings and the quits rate both went up.
The state added 2,972 jobs last month, with the largest growth coming in the private education and health services sector.
The state also continued to add employment-aged adults, with the year-over-year growth rate at 1.9%. That rate has decreased since last summer, but remains 1.1 percentage points above the national average.
Of the seven metropolitan areas where the office measures employment, only Yuma saw a reduction in employment.
Tucson had the smallest gains, with employment growing by a tenth of a percent in April.
In the past year, Arizona has added 68,000 jobs.
