University of Arizona’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Joseph Glover is stepping down after just over a month after being appointed to the position.
“I have decided to leave my position as Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs to return to the University of Florida,” Glover wrote in a campus-wide email Tuesday evening.
According to Glover, the University of Florida is undergoing a “major transition,” and the interim president has asked him to come back. Glover spent 15 years there before being appointed as the University of Arizona’s Provost on July 1.
Glover called the decision “difficult,” and said in the statement that he bought a house in Tucson when he arrived over the summer.
“When I took on this important role as Provost, I intended to stay and was committed to becoming an integral part of this community, advancing the university’s success in the years to come,” the statement says.
This is the second shakeup of UA leadership in the last week. The Arizona Board of Regents appointed Suresh Garimella as the new president on Friday.
“I regret that I will not get to work alongside President Garimella and see his vision for the U of A unfold,” he wrote. “I will work with university leadership to support my successor and ensure a smooth transition in the coming weeks.”
