The University of Arizona has re-appointed Ronald Marx to the Provost position following the resignation of another senior staff member last week.
Now-former Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs Joe Glover announced he was leaving the UA and returning to the University of Florida after just over a month on the job.
President Robbins said that Marx was chosen to come back to serve during a time of “presidential transition,” following the announcement of Suresh Garimella as the next president two weeks ago.
“Dr. Garimella and I are grateful for his willingness to serve in this role again, which reflects his strong commitment to our university and its mission,” Robbins wrote in a campus-wide email on Monday.
Marx’s appointment is effective immediately, as the university prepares for the start of a new school year with significant leadership changes. According to Robbins’ email, Glover's last day at the University is Friday, Aug. 23.
Ronald Marx formerly served as interim provost during the 2023-2024 school year and stepped down in June, intending to spend a year as faculty in the College of Education before retiring.
Further leadership shakeups
Originally reported by Ellie Wolfe of the Arizona Daily Star, Senior Associate to the President and Chief of Staff Jon Dudas became the second senior vice president to resign last week.
The Star obtained Dudas’ resignation email sent to his staff, where he said “It is the right time for me to leave.”
The University would not confirm or deny Dudas’ departure to AZPM.
President-designate Garimella is now expected to search for three senior leadership positions when he takes over in the fall. Besides a permanent Provost and a new Senior Associate to the President, Garimella said the search for a new Senior Vice President of Research and Innovation is underway.
