While Miss Marple comforts Miss Blacklock, Inspector Craddock is trying to trace two more people from her past, who would also be beneficiaries. Two other people also appear to be on the track of the murder. Miss Hinchcliffe and Amy Murgatroyd, who had been present at the shooting, decide to re-enact the event. Amy suddenly remembers something vital, but before she can disclose what it is, Miss Hinchcliffe is urgently summoned away. On her return she finds Amy has been strangled. While Craddock is taking statements in connection with this most recent murder, Miss Marple disappears. Craddock fears she might be another victim, but of course, she is setting up a cunning plan to trap the murderer.
