Early in 2014, legendary lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for The Moody Blues, Justin Hayward, embarked on a concert tour of the East Coast featuring classic Moody Blues songs plus songs from his solo album Spirits of the Western Sky. Hayward's tour culminated in a powerful performance taped at the Buckhead Theater in Atlanta. This pledge program will bring that very special concert to our PBS audience. For over thirty years, Hayward and The Moody Blues have been musical mainstays on concert stages, recordings and the airwaves. The Moody Blues have sold more than 70 million albums worldwide and have been awarded 18 platinum and gold discs. The Justin Hayward: Spirits... Live concert features both Moody Blues classics including "Tuesday Afternoon" (one of the biggest-selling singles of all time) and "Nights in White Satin," plus other gems from the Moody Blues catalog, and Hayward's newest songs from his solo career. The show also features two former keyboardists of the Moody Blues, plus a virtuoso performance by Mike Dawes, an extraordinary guitarist who brings to mind the greats like Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. What also makes this concert memorable is the intimate setting of the Buckhead Theater. Usually, Hayward plays to huge halls with a much larger band. But the Buckhead Theater concert is a smaller venue that enabled the four performers to play with an intimacy they rarely had experienced before. And there, the audience in the theater is treated (and so will our PBS audience) to a performance that has both excitement and a rich sense of connection to a performer who is part of rock history.
