PBS News Weekend

Season 4, Episode 27 of 99

On Saturday, as part of 2015 American Graduate Day that focuses on keeping students on the path to graduation, NewsHour Weekend explores the education of teachers. As the U.S. grapples with public education reform, an AmeriCorps service program in Boston is being heralded as a model for training teachers. The Boston Teacher Residency program recruits future teachers and places them in schools to provide practical experience. And it's working. Other cities have begun to take notice in this unique path for teacher training. NewsHour's Christopher Booker reports. Also on Saturday, NewsHour Weekend examines another approach to education, known as blended learning. This technique replaces a portion of traditional face-to-face instruction with web-based online learning. In particular, the computerized curriculum helps at-risk students learn at the own pace with the aim of inspiring more confidence toward scholastic achievement. NewsHour's Hari Sreenivasan reports.
